Green Friday campaign was launched yesterday in a drive to encourage people to shop locally and support Irish brands and businesses this Christmas. All Irish brands and businesses are being encouraged to market under the Green Friday banner, highlighting the value proposition that shopping locally and buying Irish represents. The campaign has been championed by trade associations including the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland, Retail Excellence, Chambers Ireland, and by the Small Firms Association.
The message is that shopping locally and supporting Irish manufacturers keeps money in circulation in Irish communities and drives the Irish economy. More than €50 million is spent in Ireland over the Black Friday weekend. Christmas shopping spend is around €4.65 billion. Cyber Monday shoppers are encouraged to similarly find their online bargains on the sites of Irish companies and retailers with an Irish presence. Irish corporates are being encouraged to gift Irish and get behind Green Friday too! And, while not an environmental campaign, Green Friday is sustainability in its truest sense – promoting the eco-friendly shop-local message, sustaining jobs and local enterprise, and sustaining pride in the immense talent and creativity Irish brands and businesses represent.
Extensive advertising and social media will back this campaign, including a dedicated Pat Kenny Show radio programme on Monday, 25th November. A microsite, goforgreenfriday.com provides retailers and brands with free downloadable marketing material. For any questions on the campaign, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
