Runners and walkers throughout County Wexford have been busy building up the miles in their legs ahead of one of the highlights of the running calendar – the Pettitt’s SuperValu Wexford Half Marathon & 10k, which takes place in April.
This hugely popular event, which attracts participants from all over Ireland and beyond, is now in its 15th year, and takes place on Sunday April 23, with support from main sponsor Pettitt’s SuperValu.
Pettitt’s have been proud sponsors of the Pettitt’s SuperValu Wexford Half Marathon for several years. “It’s great to get behind the Wexford community and see so many people being active throughout the county,” said St. Aidan’s store manager, Nicky Byrne.
“We’re looking forward to another great day out and a record crowd attending.”
The race is organised by the Bear Group and is open to anyone who wants to walk or run either distance. This year, the event has seen an increase in demand due to the growing interest in health and fitness events.
“This has grown into an absolutely fantastic event, there is always a great buzz around Wexford and it’s great to see the buy in from the local community” said race director Mick Foy. “The Wexford race has become a weekend away for many running groups, running clubs, and beginner runners.”
In addition to being a fantastic opportunity for fitness and wellbeing, the Pettitt’s SuperValu Wexford Half Marathon & 10k is also an important community event. The support and enthusiasm of the local community is essential to the success of the event, and it has become a big social occasion in the Wexford sporting calendar.
Online entries for the race close on April 17, or before if it sells out. Participants can register for the event at www.bearraces.ie.
