Two County Wexford Chamber members have been announced as the main sponsors of Slaney Sharks Swimming Club. John A. Sinnott & Co. Solicitors and Enniscorthy Credit Union have come on board as main sponsors for the season, helping to secure the club’s future. John A. Sinnott & Co. Solicitors, serving Enniscorthy since 1865, and Enniscorthy Credit Union, supporting the community since 1964, both have a long history of giving back.
Since the Waterfront Pool and Leisure Centre first opened in Enniscorthy, Slaney Sharks Swimming Club has been making waves. The club has trained generations of young swimmers and fostered a love for the sport among children and teenagers in the Enniscorthy area. The club promotes a supportive environment where young athletes can develop their skills, build confidence, and form lasting friendships through regular training and competition.
Overcoming Challenges
In an era of rising costs and soaring energy prices, many businesses and clubs struggle to stay afloat. Unlike some sports clubs that own their own facilities and qualify for major grants, swimming clubs rely largely on funding from their members and the wider community. This summer marks 25 years in the pool. Slaney Sharks currently has 50 members, ranging in age from 10 and up, across three squads. Recently, Louise Kinsella and Catriona Grimes from John A. Sinnott’s visited the Waterfront to meet the swimmers and coaches and see first-hand the dedication that competitive swimming demands. They were both surprised and impressed by the time and commitment these young athletes devote to their sport.
Community Support
John Murphy of John A. Sinnott Solicitors commented: “We are always happy to support organisations that are committed to their discipline, and the commitment of Slaney Sharks is very impressive. The dedication of these young swimmers enables them to compete at the highest level while developing invaluable life skills. We are delighted to help the club thrive, which in turn benefits Enniscorthy and the wider community.”
Enniscorthy Credit Union stated they are “always delighted to support the different sports clubs in our community.” As a volunteer-run organisation themselves, they were especially keen to acknowledge and thank, on behalf of the community, the committee and volunteers who keep Slaney Sharks swimming.
Looking Ahead
As Slaney Sharks celebrates 25 years of excellence, the support from John A. Sinnott & Co. Solicitors and Enniscorthy Credit Union ensures that the club can continue to provide exceptional training and opportunities for young swimmers in Enniscorthy. Here’s to many more years of success and community spirit!
