Wexford Chamber has welcomed the European Commission’s adoption of a Better Regulation Agenda.
Martin Doyle, President Wexford Chamber said, “Ensuring that EU legislation is well designed, evidence based and fit for purpose will ensure that policy measures can be achieved without imposing disproportionate costs and burdens on businesses. Effective implementation and strong governance will be critical to ensure that there are tangible benefits for business.”
“The extension of consultations to cover the entire lifecycle of policy development, the involvement of external experts in a ‘Regulatory Scrutiny Board’ and the firm commitment to apply the ‘Think Small First’ principle more thoroughly will all serve to make EU regulation more efficient. We believe that these are principles that could usefully be applied at a national level to ensure Irish SMEs are not overburdened by domestic legislation,” he concluded.
