FOLLOW THE WEXFORD STAR
LAUNCH OF WEXFORD WINTERLAND 2014
Following an event in Whites of Wexford last Tuesday when Wexford Winterland was launched, Madeleine Quirke, CEO of Wexford Chamber, believes that “this is going to be the best Christmas ever for Wexford Town.”
Tony Larkin, Director of Services, Wexford County Council outlined that the Council in association with Wexford Chamber and the Wexford Retail Group have developed an enhanced programme of events to promote Wexford as a premier shopping destination this Christmas which will see a number of new Christmas themed events throughout the town, and he complimented the organising committee on a wonderful Wexford Winterland programme of events for 2014.
He further stated that “the programme will be an impactive six week programme and involves a substantial commitment by the Council in supporting retail businesses in the town by having an attractive promtional programme of events for the important Christmas shopping season.” He outlined that the promotional programme will be promoted under the branding of “Wexford Winterland” and he urged retail businesses in the town to fully engage with the overall programme and especially with the proposed special offers for Tuesdays and late night openings for Thursdays which will coincide with Free Parking for shoppers in the town during those periods in the run up to Christmas.
Commenting on the programme of events, Madeleine pointed out that there will be elements of Wexford Winterland throughout the town from the Christmas Tree in Redmond Square , Selskar/Trimmers Lane canopy ‘Under the Stars’, Wexford on Ice and Christmas Tree Forest with Carousel and ‘Make a Wish Tree’ on the Quay, Christmas Tree in the Bull Ring, Festive Lights and Piped Music throughout the town and Christmas Parade commencing in South Main Street. The events will be managed by Lantern Events, the company that has been so successful with the Spiegel Tent and all the wonderful talent that it has brought to the town over the past few years.
This exciting programme of events will transform Wexford during the 2014 festive season. Selskar will become an outdoor venue for events such as classic Christmas moves, orchestral performances and concerts. Lots happening around town for families including Santa workshops, Santa and his Elves returning to the Irish National Heritage Park, Christmas Craft Fair in Wexford Art Centre and our own special Market in the Bull Ring – the list goes on and on. A specially designed Wexford Winterland brochure and website will be available in early November .
“The support we have received from the Emerald Group, Noel Moran, whose company supplies Wexford grown Christmas trees throughout Europe is very exciting” said Madeleine. “Noel has worked with us to bring a real live Christmas tree experience to Wexford. In addition to the Christmas Tree Forest, we will be facilitating a fun but educational exhibition on the life of a Christmas tree which we hope will appeal to all primary schools and maybe even some secondary schools. “
“We have also caught the attention of RTÉ with Damien Tiernan committing to a good strong Nationwide package that will be aired on 15th December. What an opportunity for Retail Wexford to really sell themselves nationally and beyond. We have to look our best!!!!” she added.
Furthermore, with regard to parking, the County Council will provide free parking facilities both up on Trinity Street and in Dr Furlongs on Hill Street right through and into the New Year. Please encourage your staff to avail of these spaces in order that shoppers can park nearer the town.
Wexford Chamber is appealing to all business owners along the Main Street to support the plan of action for Christmas 2014. It is important that these initiatives are supported by you the businesses of Wexford. We will be issuing a ‘Star’ to all businesses who pledge something extra to customers during the free parking periods. “Follow the Wexford Star” will be promoted far and wide and again we hope that you will be able to join in the spirit and fun of the Festive Season and offer something extra (big or small) to your customer. This can change from day to day and can simply be lollipops, , a voucher to go to your neighboring café for a coffee, a free mince pie, 10% discount, a voucher for return business – the list is endless.
“Together we can make this work” concluded Madeleine. “Follow the Wexford Star and the magic of Christmas will transform our town and make Wexford the place to visit in the lead up to Christmas.”
