Guardian Fire & Safety, one of Ireland’s leading providers of fire and life safety systems, has invested in a new all-electric vehicle as part of their fleet. This investment came about as a result of their participation in the Green for Micro initiative through Local Enterprise Office Wexford. The scheme provided Guardian Fire & Safety with consultation from EcoMerit, the environmental certification and support providers.
The van selected is a Citroen eBerlingo. So far, its driver, Service Engineer Tomás Moynihan has found the change very positive. The electric vehicle has proven to be far quieter and seems to have better traction, due to this model having larger tyres.
Tomás has not experienced any anxiety about running out of charge yet but he has been careful to do his calculations before setting off on any journey. His job regularly has him driving 100km a day. Tomás’s advice to anyone considering making the move to Electric is “Do your homework! Know your average daily commute and look for a vehicle with a range to support that but do not expect to get the advertised range. We worked closely with EcoMerit before we made the decision to go electric so we fully understood how it would fit with the needs of the business.”
