Maeve Dunne elected chair of Association of Data Protection Officers

Maeve Dunne has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the Association of Data Protection Officers (ADPO) Specialist Network.

Maeve, an independent data protection officer, runs MDdm, a data protection consultancy. Based in Gorey, she offers outsourced DPO services to both the public and private sectors.

ADPO, a key component of the Irish Computer Society (ICS), plays a crucial role in supporting and advancing the data protection profession in Ireland. As the new Chairperson, Maeve brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this vital position.

Leadership in data protection

“We are thrilled to welcome Maeve Dunne as the new Chairperson of our ADPO Specialist Network,” said ICS Council President Tiziana Margaria. “Her appointment reflects our commitment to fostering leadership in data protection and privacy within the Irish tech community.”

Maeve Dunne commented on her new role, saying: “I am honoured to take on the position of Chairperson for ADPO. In this era of rapid technological advancement, data protection professionals are obliged to wear many skilled hats to ensure they can provide assurance to the board and risk management team.

“Supporting our data protection professionals in their role has never been more critical. Our Executive team and network of experts look forward to providing our members a clear knowledge and education pathway, sharing best practice and some great opportunities for our members to grow their crucial networks here in Ireland and across Europe.”

In her new capacity, Maeve will lead ADPO in its mission to:

  • Provide a clear knowledge and education pathway for members
  • Offer news and updates on advancing regulation and best practice
  • Be a forum for both new and experienced data protection professionals to network and share experiences
  • Present an opportunity for corporate sponsorship and engagement with our members
  • Offer continuous professional development opportunities for members
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies and policymakers to address emerging data protection challenges
