Opening Night Wexford Festival Opera – Quayside Ceremony

67th Wexford Festival Opera on October 19th

The free, unrestricted, public event will kick-off from 7.00 pm on Friday, 19 October. The crowd will be addressed by the Mayor of Wexford, Councillor Tony Dempsey and Chairman of Wexford Festival, Mr. Ger Lawlor. The Festival will then be officially opened by Minister for Culture, Heritage & the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan T.D. followed by the traditional fireworks display over Wexford Harbour at approximately, 7.40 p.m.
Traffic restrictions will be in place, with Wexford Bridge and the quays closed to traffic from 5 pm. Both the bridge and the quays are expected to re-open at 8:30 pm. There will be a designated disabled carpark on Crescent Quay. Gardai will be on hand along the quay to allow access to anyone needing to use this facility.
As this year’s Festival opens on a Friday, large crowds with young children are anticipated. People attending the quayside ceremony are reminded to observe the instructions of the signage and the stewards. Drones are not permitted.
The 67th Wexford Festival Opera will run over 17 days, beginning Friday, 19 October and running until Sunday, 4 November 2018.
